Course Description

Only opened in 2013, Centurion offers a unique golfing experience in the St. Albans area for those lucky enough to play. The course is often described as a tale of two parts with the first five holes cut into mature woodland (giving a feel not unlike Woburn) with the remaining holes being relatively wide open (similar to The Grove). The course offers a long championship layout that in recent years has played host to the European Ladies Tour in the form of the Aramco Team Series event. As would be expected for a course of this calibre, the facilities are excellent with a full driving range and warm up area. Centurion is also noted for its superb restaurnat that in itself is a destination.

Centurion is a young course but it is well worth a visit if you are fortunate enough to get invited to play. As would be expected with a private course, the facilities and the conditioning were excellent. The course opens with a dog leg Par 5 (one of seven) through lovely old trees. Many of the par 5's are reachable for the long hitter but strategic bunkering encourages smart play. The course opens up from the sixth hole onwards when you leave the woodland. You pass through the halfway hut at the eigth and tenth tees providing spectaculr views of the surounding holes and area. The signature par 4 twelfth requires a good tee shot to give yourself an opportunity over the water (long hitters in summer may want to club down to avoid getting wet). Into the finish is the lovely 18th - water shouldn't be in play (but be prepared for a gallery from the rooftop patio). All in a superb course, and certainly one of the best in the London area.
