About the course

Course description

Wyke Green is a testing parkland layout not far from Central London that is well complimented for the quality of its greens. The course opens with an inviting short Par 4 before showing its teeth with four consecutive long par 4's that all require straight tee shots. It opens up a little bit after that with a good variety of holes that alternate in shape and length. The layout finishes with the longest par 3 that can play to over 220 yards followed by the shortest par 3 and the smallest green on the course at the 17th (don't miss the green as the bunkers can be savage). The course has done a fantastic job to make best use of the limited space.

With the Picadilly line running across the course, the M4 neighbouring on one side and Heathrow not too far away in the distance planes, trains and automobiles are a fun fixture at Wyke.

A compact, green-focused test within easy reach of Central London

Wyke Green is a compact par-70 parkland course in West London that makes intelligent use of its limited footprint. It is one of the more accessible full-length rounds from central London, but it still asks for proper golf: the opening stretch rewards accurate tee shots, while the closing holes place a premium on controlled approaches. The course does not rely on sheer length for its challenge; position and precision do the work. Even though we played it in after months of no rain, the greens and tee boxes were in great shape (unsurprisngly the fairways were bone dry but this is the case at almost all London courses). In recent years they've also taken down a number of trees so the course is slightly more forgiving with wayward tee shots on a number of the holes (e.g., 1st, 3rd, 4th, 9th).

What stood out

The greens are the headline. They are the course's strongest defence, and the small targets make approach play more important than simply hitting the fairway. The long par 3 at the 16th and the much shorter 17th provide a memorable contrast late in the round.

Best for

Golfers looking for a proper 18-hole test within easy reach of central London, particularly players who enjoy a course that rewards accurate approach shots and thoughtful course management.

Before you go

The Piccadilly line, the M4 and Heathrow are all part of the soundtrack, which is part of Wyke Green's distinctive London character. Visitor availability can be limited at busy times, so check current times and rates with the club before travelling.

They've really done a good job with the fairways and greens. Surprised at how nice they are for a course so close to central London especially given the dry weather of late.

Hard to find a better course so close to central London - greens are some of the best that I've ever played. Very compact course (not surprising given proximity to London) that makes the most of its tight space. Need to be accurate on approach shots as fairways are relatively narrow. Course starts with 6 straight par 4's and finishes with two par 3's (a very long one and a very short one) prior to the 18th. Expect to see a lot of planes, trains and automobiles as the tube and M4 run along a few of the holes and Heathrow is not far away. All in all, good value for a central London course.
